⦿ INSPIRING YOUNG GENERATION
Ham Radio is a scientific hobby that welcomes teenagers, adults, and individuals from all walks of life, fostering a diverse and inclusive community. It can be a unique platform for teenagers and adults to delve into electronics and wave propagation, regardless of their formal education. It's a journey that builds self-confidence and discipline, essential traits for a successful career in any field, and most importantly, it's a way to spend time meaningfully.
It's important to note that getting involved in ham radio requires studying for and obtaining a license from the relevant regulatory authority. Knowledge of basic electronics and wave propagation is enough to obtain a permit to operate a ham station. In the Philippines, the age limit is 9.
One of our esteemed radio enthusiasts, Julianne, is an example of how easy it is to obtain a license. She recently passed the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Licensure Examination and now holds a Foundation Class Amateur Radio License. Her call sign is 4H1HOT.
SCAN International strongly advocates for our youngsters to indulge in a rewarding and educational hobby such as amateur radio. Amateur radio is a promising avenue for them to develop strong technical skills and understand radio communication. It can help improve speaking and listening skills. They can interact with people of all ages who share their interest in radio communication, leading to lasting friendships and mentorship opportunities. Further, it can give them a sense of achievement as they work towards obtaining their license and continue to advance their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, which is now prevailing in Philippine K12 education.
