Brief History
The Society of Communicators And Networkers (SCAN) International is an amateur radio communication group founded in the Philippines by Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, DU1UJ.
The organization was formally incorporated on July 12, 1988, when it was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the name DX1-EVM SCAN International. The acronym EVM stands for Enthusiasts of Various Modes, reflecting the group's commitment to exploring diverse communication technologies, while SCAN stands for Society of Communicators and Networkers. A significant milestone followed on February 6, 1989, when the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) officially accredited SCAN as an amateur radio organization. This historic date marks the official foundation day of SCAN International. Later that year, on August 12, 1989, the organization strengthened its standing within the amateur radio community through its affiliation with the Philippine Amateur Radio Association (PARA).
During its formative years, SCAN International distinguished itself as a pioneer in radio-based digital communications. The organization established and maintained a Bulletin Board System (BBS) using amateur radio packet modem technology, when digital networking was still in its infancy in the Philippines. The SCAN BBS became one of the early networks operating as internet gateways in the country and was among the pioneering systems to employ wireless packet-radio connectivity for the exchange of digital information.
As SCAN continued to expand beyond its original membership base, a unified organizational structure was adopted under the name SCAN International. This development enabled coordination of operations and activities across various chapters, transforming the organization into an umbrella network that today brings together communicators and amateur radio enthusiasts from around the world—one that combines the science of communication with the higher calling of service to humanity.

Maintain a solid amateur radio and socio-civic communication network across the globe in service to humanity.

Provide communications, relevant information, disaster preparedness, and emergency response services to society.
